Keira Knightley is a celebrity bride we adore for her completely relaxed attitude to her wedding style. The actress embraced the short wedding dress trend in Chanel when she married musician James Righton in 2013 and though was the epitome of quiet luxury, it ultimately met a very unfortunate end.
The couple were reportedly introduced by none other than Alexa Chung and they opted for a low-key ceremony in Mazan in southeastern France. The British actress was the face of Chanel’s fragrance Coco Mademoiselle for many years, so it came as no surprise that she wore a head-to-toe ensemble from the French fashion house on her special day.
Her strapless chiffon mini dress was accessorised with a short boucle jacket, designed personally for her by the late Karl Lagerfeld, and a pair of signature cap-toe Chanel flats completed the look.

Keira Knightley’s Wedding Dress Drama
The balletcore-esque dress was in fact her ‘something old’ as she had already worn the Chanel number to a movie premiere, before wearing it again to walk down the aisle. This added a sustainable fashion element to her which we totally applaud.
The Atonement actress first wore the designer mini dress to attend a pre-Bafta party back in 2008 with her then-boyfriend, fellow actor Rupert Friend.
She even gave it another outing soon after her big day, when it met an unfortunate fate that is every bride’s worst nightmare.

“I’d worn the dress lots. It was my something old,” she told The Daily Telegraph in 2014. “And I like not making a big deal about it. I just wanted to be in something I had had a great time in, something I would have a great time in again.”
When she recycled her wedding dress not too long after her wedding day for a glamorous charity event in December 2013, she styled it differently, opting to wear it with a sheer beaded bodysuit, switching her Chanel pumps for gold Jimmy Choo heels.

However, sadly, that was the last time Keira would ever wear it as she revealed her friend spilled red wine all over it.
“It’s now got red wine spilled down the front because the last time I wore it my friend went like this [juts out her elbows]. Now it’s everywhere,” she explained. She didn’t realise the extent of the damage until she got home as it was “quite impressively splattered”.

The idea of spilling anything, and especially red wine, on a wedding dress would send a shiver down any bride’s spine but Keira’s reaction was quite surprising – she didn’t seem to mind all that much!
She explained, “But, hey, a good night is a good night, and when a dress has had its time, maybe it’s had its time. I’m pretty sure I can get it out but, if I can’t, I’m happy with the memory of a good night and the story of how the dress got destroyed.”

It wasn’t the only dress drama Keira suffered as her dress ‘split in half’ moments before hitting the red carpet at a premiere too.
But if there’s one lesson we can learn from Keira’s mishaps happen – style it out and laugh it off. It really isn’t the end of the world – and a good night is a good night!
