Cedar Lakes Estate Wedding Ideas
Lindsey of Wildflower Events and Design had an amazing idea to do a spring styled shoot at the luxury camp venue, Cedar Lakes Estate in Port Jervis, New York.
This venue has been the site of many high-end wedding (*hello, Beanie Feldstein*) and has been featured in a number of wedding and fashion magazines, such as Vogue. It is the perfect addition to any portfolio and thus a great place to hold a styled shoot to get those images.
The shoot was set for late April, so the grass was green, but the trees had not yet grown any leaves. The vibe of the day was definitely whimsical fairytale with all the pastels and large floral pieces, including a moss covered umbrella.
It all worked so well for the start of spring and our bride model Rosemary had the most brilliant red hair that added to the whimsy. She looked like a princess in both Monique Lhuillier dresses and Jon looked like a rugged Prince Charming.
We started the shoot with a tour of the grounds by a staff member who took my photo group around in a golf cart.
We saw many of the different cabins and cottages that guests can stay in over a wedding weekend as well as the places for activities like a kickball field, the lake with a number of rowboats, the gardens, and the mountaintop where our shoot’s ceremony set-up was done.
Instead of standard seating for the ceremony, they did pastel velvet lounge furniture like couches and foot stools.
The aisle was lined with flowers both in arrangements and singularly placed in the ground. It led up to the altar area that had two large arrangements on stand. Our models, who were not a real couple, were happy to play bride and groom for us.
We also lucked out with the perfect partly cloudy day, which gave us the warmth of the sun, and the even lighting of the clouds.
Towards the evening, model Rosemary changed into a different Monique Lhuillier dress and we photographed some “reception” scenes in the barn.
Of course, being a luxury venue, the barn at Cedar Lakes Estate is not a typical barn. It is 6,200 sq ft and it has a wall of windows to illuminate the inside and overlook the lake. It has crystal chandeliers and a full 1920’s style bar.
The shoot set up a lounge area inside and gathered all the flowers. We took photos with the bar and champagne tower, but the main focus was the area right outside.
The Amphitheater is the most known spot of Cedar Lakes for ceremonies. It is right on the lake surrounded by trees, with a wooden aisle, and natural slope of the ground for chairs. It’s the perfect place for a ceremony and I’m so glad I got to be a part of this day!
What a feast for the eyes!
