What drives Me?

This mission is deeply personal to me because I’ve seen firsthand how cultural beliefs, especially in African societies, can destroy lives. I grew up in a culture where marriage is seen as the ultimate achievement for a woman. Staying married, no matter how unhealthy or toxic the relationship, is often glorified as a sign of strength and virtue. This mindset, deeply rooted in our beliefs, leaves many women trapped—fearing judgment, isolation, and the shame of being labeled a failure if they choose to leave.

I witnessed this destructive narrative unfold in the lives of the women closest to me. My mum and my older sister both clung to these cultural expectations, staying in unhealthy marriages despite the emotional neglect, abuse, and unhappiness they endured. They sacrificed their health and peace for the sake of appearances and societal acceptance. Eventually, the stress and emotional toll made them sick, and they both passed away. Watching them self-destruct under the weight of these beliefs was heartbreaking, and it left a lasting impact on me.

Their struggles shaped how I approached my own relationships. I didn’t realize it at the time, but their experiences influenced my choices in partners and how I dealt with conflict in my marriage. These deeply ingrained beliefs about loyalty and endurance, no matter the cost, compounded the challenges in my life. I found myself in a cycle of pain, resentment, and confusion, all while trying to live up to expectations that were never meant to serve me.

Reaching my breaking point forced me to confront the beliefs I had internalized. I realized that I needed to reprogram my mind and challenge the narratives that no longer aligned with my values or my well-being. This journey has been far from easy, and it’s still ongoing. I’m unlearning, reshaping my thoughts, and learning to trust myself again.

Through this process, I’ve come to understand that healing is not just about leaving a toxic relationship; it’s about unearthing and letting go of the beliefs that kept you in it. As African women, we are taught to carry everything—our families, our communities, and our marriages—on our backs. But I want us to realize that we don’t have to sacrifice our happiness, health, and freedom to fulfill outdated societal expectations.

My mission now is to help other women, especially African women, find peace and liberation after divorce. I want to guide them toward reprogramming their minds, healing from emotional pain, and redefining what happiness looks like for them. We don’t have to live in cycles of suffering and silence. By confronting these beliefs and creating new narratives, we can transform our realities into ones that prioritize our self-love, growth, and true joy.
